Fiona Albert
Before joining the private Bar, Fiona was a Senior Federal Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Cth), where she had carriage of complex indictable criminal matters, including large-scale drug importations, organised crime, money laundering, human trafficking and slavery, cyber threats, and online child exploitation cases. She also has experience prosecuting fraud matters, including tax and social security fraud, and commercial offences, such as insolvent trading and breach of duty by company officers, and fraud offences under state law. Fiona appeared in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of Queensland and on Norfolk Island and instructed in proceedings before the High Court of Australia and the Queensland Court of Appeal. Earlier, as a solicitor in regional Queensland, she maintained a broad practice - including criminal and family law - and acted as an accredited duty lawyer. In 2019, she was Associate to a judge of the County Court of Victoria.
Fiona came to the law after a career in high-performance sport, having been a member of the 2016 Australian Olympic rowing team, Australian and Queensland rowing teams, and a representative on the Rowing Australia Athlete Commission. Fiona looks forward to combining this experience with her legal training to advise and appear for athletes and sports administrators and regulators.
Fiona holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) from the University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Australian National University. She was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2017. In 2026, she was called to the Bar and commenced her readership with Halsbury Chambers.
Fiona accepts briefs in criminal law, regulatory prosecutions, appeals, administrative law, child protection, domestic and family violence, the civil confiscation of the proceeds of crime, inquests, professional disciplinary proceedings, and sports law. Fiona welcomes opportunities to appear in regional and remote communities.
